
Palo Alto Junior College is making waves in the local basketball scene with the signing of three exceptional San Antonio high school athletes—Roger Thomas III, Zayth Guerrero, and Ernesto Castro. Choosing to stay in their hometown, these young talents have committed to furthering both their academic and athletic careers under the leadership of Coach Green and the esteemed Palominos basketball program. Their decision marks a significant milestone in fostering local talent and strengthening the basketball culture within the region.
Coach Green, known for his emphasis on developing well-rounded student-athletes, spoke highly of the trio and the values they bring to the team. “We are looking for players who embody what it means to be true student-athletes and great teammates. I am thrilled to have these young men contribute to our program and help carry the torch for San Antonio,” he remarked at the announcement event.



Each player brings a unique skill set and a proven track record of dedication, making them invaluable assets to the Palominos roster.

*Roger Thomas III – Sotomayor High School
Roger was instrumental in helping Sotomayor High School reach the playoffs for the first time in its history, showcasing his defensive prowess and rebounding strength. Across 33 games, he averaged 5 points and 7 rebounds per contest, making his presence felt in high-stakes situations. His ability to command the boards and provide defensive stability will undoubtedly translate well into the collegiate level.

*Zayth Guerrero – Stevens High School
A four-year varsity player at Stevens High School, Zayth wrapped up his high school career with an impressive 409 total points, averaging 8 points and 4 rebounds per game. His scoring ability and leadership experience make him a poised and composed asset as he transitions into college competition.

*Ernesto Castro – Stevens High School
Known as the “glue guy,” Ernesto’s impact goes beyond statistics. His ability to foster team chemistry and provide unwavering support in crucial moments solidified his role at Stevens High School. With 31 games played and averages of 2 points and 2 rebounds per game, Ernesto is recognized for his hustle, determination, and leadership.

Beyond their high school achievements, Roger, Zayth, and Ernesto have been shaped by their time in the Bigger Than Basketball program under the guidance of Boys Director Eric Robles. This developmental initiative not only sharpened their technical skills but also instilled a strong work ethic and determination. “These young men exemplify that anything is possible with hard work and perseverance,” said Robles. Their commitment to excellence was evident in their intense defensive drills, their high-flying energy in practices, and their undeniable drive to push their limits.
