The Marshall High School Boys Basketball team is on the move in the latest UIL realignment. The Rams are leaving District 28 and heading to District 27, where they will be reunited with their old Northside ISD rivals.
This is a homecoming of sorts for the Rams, as the school was previously known as Northside High before changing its name to John Marshall. The school name is honored after the fourth Chief Juistice of the United States. The Rams are one of the oldest programs in the San Antonio area, with deep roots in the Northside ISD basketball community. The school is located in the San Antonio suburb of Leon Valley in the northwest side of town.
While the Rams lost their leading scorer and rebounder Aric Goodman to graduation, they will be leaning on the return of star point guard Jason Vidaurri. As a freshman last season, Vidaurri led District 28 in assists, dishing out 5 assist per game.
With Vidaurri running the show, the Rams will look to make some noise in the new-look District 27. They’ll be facing off against familiar foes from the Northside ISD, including schools like Brennan, Harlan, O’Connor and Stevens.
It should make for an exciting and competitive district play, as the Rams try to reestablish themselves as one of the top programs in the San Antonio area. The reunion with their Northside ISD rivals is sure to add some extra intensity to their games this season and seasons to come.
Head coach Bobby Jaklich is optimistic about the transition, saying “We’re excited to be back competing against the schools we grew up playing. It’s going to be a battle every night, but I know our guys are up for the challenge.”
The Rams open their season on November 2nd, and district play will kick off in early December. Fans in the Northside community won’t want to miss a minute of Rams Hoops this year!
