Two San Antonio schools have advanced to the UIL State tournament, showcasing the talent and hard work of their basketball teams. The teams that have made it to the state tournament are 5A Region IV District 26 Veterans Memorial High School and 3A Region IV District 26 Robert G. Cole High School.
Veterans Memorial High School has had an outstanding season with a record of 40-1 overall and 10-0 in district play. They were ranked #1 in San Antonio for most of the season by MaxPreps. The team is led by three talented seniors, Damarion Dennis, Gervai Maeweathers, and Devin McCloud. Their regular season ended on a high note with a dominant win against Boerne-Champion with a score of 54-29.
In the playoffs, Veterans Memorial continued their winning streak by defeating Leander, Jefferson, Rouse, Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, and Vela to earn their spot in the state tournament. Their next game is against Ellison on Thursday at 7:00pm at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.
Robert G. Cole High School has also had an impressive season with a record of 32-9 overall and 10-0 in district play. Under the leadership of Coach Joseph Isaac, who came from San Antonio Breckenridge High School, the team has shown great determination and skill. The team is led by four seniors and a junior, including James Livingston, Ajian Hasadinratana, Kenny Atunrase, Dylan Silva and Logan Beckstrom,
In the playoffs, Cole defeated Hallettsville, South San Antonio West Campus, Edna, Corpus Christi London, and Poth to secure their spot in the state tournament. Their next game is against Hitchcock on March 7, 2024, at 3:00pm.
Both Veterans Memorial High School and Robert G. Cole High School have demonstrated their talent and determination throughout the season, and their success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaches.
