Hitchcock HS basketball team defeats Cole High School in rematch to secure spot in UIL State tournament finals.
In a highly anticipated rematch from the 2022 season, the Cole High School boys basketball team faced off against the defending UIL champions, Hitchcock High School. However, this time around, the results were not in Cole’s favor as Hitchcock came out on fire with their stifling defense and relentless pressure on Cole’s guards.
From the opening tip-off, it was clear that Hitchcock was determined to control the game on both ends of the court. Their defense made it difficult for Cole’s guards to find any rhythm, forcing them into tough shots and turnovers. Hitchcock’s dominance on the boards allowed them to limit Cole’s second-chance opportunities and create fast break opportunities.
Led by #12 Elijah Sherwood, who finished the game with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist, Hitchcock took a commanding 26-14 lead into halftime. Despite the efforts of Cole’s Logan Beckstrom, who finished with 12 points, the Cougars struggled to find their footing against Hitchcock’s relentless pressure.
In the third quarter, Hitchcock continued to pour it on, extending their lead to 15 points and never looking back. Despite a valiant effort from Cole’s Ajian Hasadinratana and Logan Beckstrom, who hit some crucial three-pointers to keep their team in the game, Hitchcock’s dominance on the boards and willingness to share the ball proved to be the difference.
After the game, Hitchcock’s coach credited his team’s preseason preparation and depth on the bench for their success. With a tough matchup against Ponder High School looming, Hitchcock will look to carry their momentum into their next game at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
