In a thrilling UIL Boys basketball game, Ponder High School emerged victorious over Holliday High School with a final score of 62-46. The game started off with both teams evenly matched, as they were tied 15-15 at the end of the first half. However, Ponder managed to pull ahead in the second quarter with a strong performance led by Carter Eddy.
Carter Eddy proved to be a key player for Ponder, scoring a total of 13 points in the first half. His excellent shooting and ability to find open spots on the court helped Ponder take the lead going into halftime with a score of 29-24. On the other side, Holliday’s Ashtyn Berry had a standout performance in the first half, going 4-4 from the field and 1-1 from downtown.
As the game progressed into the third quarter, Ponder’s Max Hutcherson stepped up his game and contributed 6 points, leading all scorers in the quarter. Ponder’s defense also tightened up, holding Holliday’s top scorers, Keitenn Bristow and Ashtyn Berry, to 20 and 21 points respectively. Despite their best efforts, Holliday struggled to find additional scoring support, with only two other players contributing a total of 5 points.
Ponder’s unselfish play and balanced scoring were evident throughout the game, with four players reaching double digits in points. Carter Eddy was particularly impressive, earning the Super Sports Media standout player award for his performance.
With this win, Ponder High School advances to face Hitchcock, the defending champion, on Saturday at 10am. The team will look to build on their success and continue their winning streak in the upcoming games. Congratulations to Ponder High School on their well-deserved victory!
